A jerk is a man (or woman) who is utterly oblivious to the way they appear to others; they are usually contrary to the ideals and desires of the majority and don’t usually subscribe to popular consensus; they are very often viewed by the social majority as contemptible, offensive, intolerant, rude, and narrow-minded.

Because the world has literally gone crazy, “real Christians” are seen by the world as jerks.  The majority of people in our country believes that its a woman’s right to kill an unborn baby; but a person that is cruel to a dog should be put in Jail - “Hello Michael Vick!”


            Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that                        

            put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for

            sweet, and sweet for bitter!


So when a Christian comes along and calls good - “good”; and evil- “evil.”

They are seen as the odd-ball or the foolish person.  The world calls them offensive and intolerant.  Many Christians have submitted to this worldly mindset - and have been pushed into the corner by the world. 

But  there are a group of people, a nation rising up from obscurity;  an Army of embolden warriors like the 300 Spartans who fearlessly faced 120,000 Persians in the movie “300.”  Who will stand for Christ no matter what the social climate of the day is -50 years ago it was easy  to stand and say homosexuality was wrong - it was actually seen by psychologist as deviant behavior.  But now who is going to stand and say its wrong?  You could lose your social status, your job, or in the near future go to jail. 

Has wrong turned right because the majority now believes it is?  No!  We have designed this page to encourage you to stand for God (Jesus)  no matter what.   On this page you will find real life stories from people who have stood in the midst of this wicked and adulterous generation (names have been changed to protect the guilty) .  Are you ashamed or will you stand also?   Listen to what Jesus said:

I am currently attending graduate school at Appalachian State University and I am in a Counseling Program. Throughout the program I have met several people that don't believe in Jesus Christ. In fact, people in my classes don't want to be associated with Jesus Christ. They act as if they are repulsed by the mention of his name. Throughout school I stood for Christ professing my faith and my believes in front of my professors and classmates-which always left me as an outsider.

 

In one class in particular, my professor informed me and my classmates that he didn't believe in heaven or hell- that they are both a state of mind and then he jokingly exclaimed that if there was a hell that he didn't mind going to hell and that he would take all of us with him. Everyone laughed but me. I boiled up on the inside and I spoke up  firmly and told him and my classmates that "Heaven is a very real place and so is Hell" and I said that " I am NOT going to Hell because I believe in Jesus Christ- I will be in Heaven. After that no one said a word.

 

Later that day a classmate that is a non-believer approached me and said that I don't have your same believes but I admire your faith and conviction in Jesus Christ.

Good Morning Colleagues,

Let me start this email off by saying that I appreciate your willingness to bring biblical insight into the counseling program via Mu Tau Beta. I also appreciate your willingness to create an atmosphere for dialogue in the Mu Tau Beta meetings. However, I do have a concern. On yesterday I attended the film showing of "For the Bible Tells Me So." This movie was at best offensive in that it made a total claim for the case of homosexual norms in society based on the "bible." The documentary only included the claims of devout Christians as a means to show them inaccurate in comparison to those who believe that homosexuality is right. The film also showed malicious individuals and reports and grouped it with Christian norms. I want to be clear, I in no way believe in hating homosexuals. I don't believe that homosexuals should be harmed or treated in a malicious fashion. I also don't believe that Christians (another group in terms of diversity) should be depicted as being "haters". As a devout Christian I do believe that the act of homosexuality is wrong as it is a mainframe belief of the Christian doctrine. The movie shown on last night discounted Christian belief tenets in the most inappropriate way. One of the individuals in the documentary made the claim that Christianity is the reason why their son committed suicide. The music in the background of the movie had the lyrics "The things that you read in the BIBLE ain't necessarily so." These components alone are appalling and there were many more that I won't take time to list. My concern at this stage is that one of the students form the Mu Tau Beta organization stated that this movie will be shown again in the College of Education, I do not believe that this is appropriate at all. Within the counseling department here, the underlying tenet is that diversity is appreciated. In essence the statement within the college of education asserts that we do not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and also "religion". You should know that movies like this marginalize individuals who prescribe to devout Christian norms. Finally, I have no problem having dialogue on the "Bible" within the subject of homosexuality, and I would be delighted to come and have this dialogue in the counseling department. However I do have a problem with films such as the one shown on yesterday. As a Christian, I do not evangelize my students because in a public university this is not accepted, I would hope that the department would give Christians the same respect by not imposing homosexual values.

I appreciate your perspective on this.  A couple of things stand out in your email though.  I do not think that the department is imposing homosexual values on anyone.  We are suggesting that using a theological approach to justifying oppression of sexual minorities is not congruent with the openness and acceptance of a counselor.  While it is true that a counselor can have values different from his or her clients, it is difficult for me to see how a counselor can project unconditional regard to clients with this theologically oppressive viewpoint.

 

I would also challenge you on the idea that homosexuality being wrong is a mainframe Christian doctrine.  I think that there is truth in this, yet I find it interesting that one of the mainframe doctrines has no basis in reality.  It is completely false.  And before you respond, please find in the Bible where Jesus stated that homosexuality was wrong.  Be careful not to use Paul's comments to the Church of Corinth.  That was an entirely different issue, one where he was addressing child molestation, also known as pederasty.

 

Whether you like it or not, religious "doctrine" or dogma, if you will, has been one of the most powerful weapons of oppression throughout history.  And it is still being used as such today.  Certainly not all Christians spout the hatred that comes from that church in Kentucky that believes that Iraqi war casualties are God's punishment of us for homosexuality.  But, I also do not see the Christian church, as a whole, refuting the beliefs being ascribed to it.  It is interesting that a survey conducted around the world, about 2 years ago, about people's perceptions of other religions, showed an astounding outcome related to this topic.  If I remember correctly, when non-Christians were about what they think Christians believed, the resounding number one response was that Christians hated homosexuals.  That is an interesting, and sad, legacy that has been created by the silence of the "Christian Church."  Another way of looking at this silence is implicit approval of what is being said and done.  Kind of like the Catholic Church not condemning Hitler and the Nazi regime.  Let's keep our beliefs and not stand up against widespread discrimination and oppression.  According to our current church stance, and our current government stance, it is socially acceptable and sanctioned to oppress and discriminate against this population of people.  No matter what I believe about the behavior, that is not ok at anytime.

Let me start off by thanking you for responding to my email, this act is much appreciated. However I must say that you and I definitely disagree, and I too am okay with disagreeing. Your email states that you “challenge me on the idea that homosexuality is wrong in mainframe Christian doctrine” and than you rebuttal yourself by saying that “there is some truth in this, but this mainframe doctrine has no basis in reality.” My question for you is simple "is it true in mainframe Christian doctrine or not true?” My offense was based solely on this film using the Bible to depict Christians as haters and affirm the homosexual lifestyle on a public university's campus. Also you state that Paul’s comments to the Church at Corinth was addressing child molestation, this notion is erroneous at best, so I thought it would be a good idea for us to reference the text in standard King James version with consideration of the original text that you are referring to. The text reads as follows:

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves mankind. 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortiners, shall inherit the kingdom or God.


Now the word effeminate in this text does not at all mean child molesters, it means homosexuals. In fact in the original word is “malakos” which does not at all mean child molestation, I’m assuming that you get the child molesters clause from the next listed sin in that verse that states “nor abusers of themselves mankind.” Furthermore, Paul makes a clear distinction in Romans 1:26-30 that men and woman were seen by God as being wicked  and interestingly enough "haters of God" for giving up their natural use i.e. men having sex with men, women having sex with women, better know in the English language as “homosexuality.” So the question becomes, "who's doing the hating here from a Christian context?" Now, you also make attempts to lift Jesus out of the bible in reference to homosexuality for reasons unbeknownst to me seeing as though Jesus in the Christian doctrine makes the claim that “He didn’t come to condemn the Law but to fulfill it.” So let address this by informing you that Jesus references in the New Testament (Matthew 10:15, Matthew 11:24) Sodom which was indeed destroyed for the homosexual acts. Jesus referenced Sodom because as he prepared his followers to warn the people about their sins, he wanted them to know that if the people did not receive the warning to simply move on and it would be worse for them than it was in Sodom and Gomorrah because of their rebellious decisions to deny the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which saves people, ie. Homosexuals from sin. Notice in the1 Corinthians text that homosexuality is grouped in with other sins such as fornication, alcoholism, idolatry etc. So we really can’t use the bible to affirm the act of any sin even if one doesn’t what to stop sinning.


Finally, the initial issue was that Mu Tu Beta in the counseling department showed a video that showed Christians as mercenaries and haters. God does not hate anyone, but he does hate sin. Furthermore, in a public University the disregard for diversity is intolerable. You referenced a study about Christians hating homosexuality? Interesting I must say. Let me ask a question, on September 11, 2001 the Trade Towers were destroyed by Haters within the MUSLIM religion in the name of their allegiance to their God, did the counseling department show any film affirming this hatred and further oppressing Muslims who may not be as evil? Well I can tell you they didn’t because I at the time was there as a Masters student. Instead, the department rallied around those from a Muslim background to affirm that not all Muslims are this way. My arguments are in no ways stated to affirm the Muslim religion of which I am not apart of, my argument is however stated to affirm that all religions should be respected in a public University, showing the movie “For The Bible Tells Me So” did not at all consider the devout Christian and their tenets.
